Our story

Made to be shared.

Shortbread has been part of Scottish celebrations and hospitality for centuries. Shepherd Shorty's carries that spirit forward through a family recipe shaped by friendship, migration, and a generous welcome.

A recipe across generations

The recipe began with Scottish friends Violet Davies, née McCurrach, and Evelyn McKay. Violet adapted it in South Africa, passed it to June and Lynne Davies, and the family carried it to the United States in 1982. Today, Violet's great-great-grandchildren still enjoy it.

A Christmas tradition

Since Violet's grandson Rich Davies founded Pavilion Development Company in 1997, the shortbread has been shared each Christmas with clients, vendors, partners, and bankers—and remains the prize everyone wants at holiday gift games.

Hospitality in Clemson

Rich also founded The Shepherd Hotel in Clemson, South Carolina. Its purpose-driven work, including meaningful employment opportunities for individuals with intellectual disabilities, reflects the same personal, generous welcome.

Enjoy it with tea, coffee, after lunch, or after dinner—if you can open the tin quietly enough to keep it to yourself.
